Rowe Transfer uses a plethora of advanced rigging equipment and rigging systems in order to tackle your biggest jobs. Rigging is the act of preparing large objects to be moved and moving them safely. Rigging is also used as a noun to describe the common rigging hardware used on the job. We get asked quite often about what equipment we use to move monstrously heavy objects. Common rigging hardware includes a variety of equipment including wire rope, turnbuckles, clevis, jacks, cranes, and many other types of lifting equipment. A Rigging system will typically involve shackles, master links, and slings.
Turnbuckles
A turnbuckle is a device used in applications where a great deal of tension is needed. Turnbuckles, also referred to as stretching screws or bottle screws, consist of two threaded eye bolts with one screwed into both ends of a metal frame and are used to adjust the tension in wire rope, cables, or tie rods used to keep objects from moving around.
Clevis
A clevis fastener is a U shaped piece of metal with holes at the end of the prongs in which a clevis pin can be slid through. A very similar apparatus is the shackle or gyve, which is a primary connecting link used in industrial crane rigging.
Jacks
A jack, also synonymous with screw jacks or jackscrews, is a mechanical device used for lifting heavy equipment. Mechanical jacks use a screw thread which converts torque into linear force, while hydraulic jacks, use hydraulic power to deliver even more lifting power. Pallet Jacks, which are a cross between a basic forklift and a jack, can be highly useful when navigating heavy equipment in tight spaces.
Forklift
Forklifts are fairly universally used in warehousing and material handling the world over and are an indispensable piece of equipment to move heavy loads. Larger forklifts can have lift capacities of up to 50 tons. Forklifts are most commonly envisioned with their typical stock fork carriage and forks, but can also be fitted with numerous attachments such as telescopic forks or rotators for different types of material handling applications.
Cranes
Cranes are a go-to piece of machinery for rigging and transferring the heaviest objects and come in as many varieties as forklifts. Common types of cranes used in rigging can include deployed truck-mounted cranes, truck mounted cranes, rough terrain cranes, and crawler cranes to name a few. Cranes work by utilizing a combination of hoist or wire ropes combined with sheaves which is essentially a pulley with a grooved wheel to add stability when lifting materials.
Remote Control Command
With the advancement of technology over the course of time, several rigging tools and hardware can be run by remote control. The addition of the remote-control commands allows for safer and more concise rigging procedures.
Other types of Common Rigging Hardware
Many types of common rigging hardware haven’t changed much over the last century, nor has their usefulness dissipated as the machines, equipment, and materials we move has grown larger and heavier. What has adapted is our use of these types of common rigging hardware as our experience has evolved.
